The Prisoner of Zenda and Rupert of Hentzau

$10.00

by Anthony Hope

The novel writing of Anthony Hope has a decidedly modern flavour, and it is with some sense of surprise that we note that ‘Zenda’ was published in 1894 and ‘Rupert’ in 1898. When the first romance was published A.E.W. Mason wrote that ‘the debonair chivalry of its hero, the vivid narration and the tenderness of the love story took more than the town by storm’, and indeed The Prisoner of Zenda speedily took its place among the few supreme examples of stories of sheer adventure–a place which, with Rupert of Hentzau, it still holds.
